In September 2023, Morocco bore the brunt of a catastrophic event that left a path of devastation in its wake. A powerful earthquake, registering at a magnitude of 6.8, struck the region, with its epicenter situated in the High Atlas Mountains, approximately 71 kilometers southwest of Marrakesh. This natural disaster had profound consequences, resulting in a significant loss of life, injuries, and extensive damage to infrastructure.
CharityAustralia, in response to the Morocco Earthquake on September 8, 2023, promptly initiated emergency relief efforts. Tragically, the earthquake claimed the lives of over 2,900 individuals, and more than 5,500 people were left injured in its wake. The sheer force of the earthquake caused extensive destruction, affecting homes, schools, and essential public services.
NGO’s swiftly mobilized relief efforts, which included the distribution of emergency shelter packages for those who found themselves displaced from their homes. Additionally, community kitchens were established to provide nourishing meals to those in need. Collaborative endeavors with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were undertaken to provide essential aid and support to the impacted communities.
